Being a Broke Filmmaker

I wasn't always this way. No, there was a time a long time ago it was different.
I wasn't always a filmmaker.

But such is life as it goes. Imagination breeds creation and creation costs money. But we make do. It didn't always cost 8 million bajillion dollars to make a movie. And it doesn't have to. We have made some headway on things using just what we have at home, what we have available for us on the computer and what other resources others have provided for us. Also our lack of budget has created some ideas for us that no matter how much we have available, we won't turn back on it.

For example, an upcoming project for me was bred from lack of effects required for a zombie movie. I wrote the script without you ever seeing a single undead being, and it made a much better story. Now if it takes me til I'm rich to make this movie, there won't be a thing I change. Its too good and unique for me to ruin it with the very thing that is the driving point of the film.

I have to give kudos to those of you that are making films and still doing it with next to nothing in budget. Its a little more difficult this way. But in the end I think the suffering makes the art that much more richer. Deeper. And that's the goal anyway isn't it?
